FAQ

What is Anca's secret?
Unrevealed in the official bio, which only says closer inspection shows she "also carries a secret, heavy enough to set her apart from the rest of the village." The game keeps what it is for her questline to explore.
Can you lose the Anca romance?
Yes, in two ways per Polygon: rush into Griefberg Castle and you can lose romance interests entirely, and as a human she dies if you talk to her in vampire form with less than one chunk of HP — ending her romance and quest line on the spot.
Does taking the Font of Life for Coen end the Anca romance?
No — per Polygon it still allows the romance; you only lose the flirtatious dialogue.

Anca is the herbalist of Laslea Glen and the third of Coen’s romance options, alongside Crake and Lacra. She is there from the prologue — and unlike the rebellion leader or the vampire assassin, her official bio is built almost entirely around what she does for Coen before the story proper begins.

Who Is Anca, Officially?

The official character page describes “a quiet presence at Coen’s side” who patiently taught him literacy and to look past surface meanings in texts — in her words, there was always “something more… something unspoken.” Then the hook: look closer and “she also carries a secret, heavy enough to set her apart from the rest of the village.” What that secret is, the bio does not say — it is the thread her questline pulls.

How Does the Anca Romance Start?

Early, and easily missed without cost. During Withering Away, accept her Latin reading suggestion to trigger Page-Turner, and choose the book with the red cover to flirt. Polygon is quick to note that missing this does not hurt your chances — the chain itself is what matters:

Echoes of Silenced Bells (she is happier if you let her do the spell) → Between the Words (make the tea; say “It’s my pleasure,” then “Always? What do you mean?” and “Your feelings toward me.”) → Where Old Devils Lie (say “Thank you for trying to help me,” question being seen as a friend, and confess you care at the lake) → Stronger Than Achilles (insert Coen’s hand in the idol three times; confess via “I’d do anything for you” and “I love you”; let her use the Font of Life).

The romance scene at the old inn, per Polygon’s line list: “I beg to differ,” or “I meant what I said”; “Let’s do something fun for once.”; “Screw decency. I want you, too.”

Where Anca Fits in the Endgame

Polygon notes one mechanical mercy: taking the Font of Life for Coen still allows the romance — you only lose the flirtatious talk. The broader warning applies to her as to every romance: rushing into the Griefberg Castle assault can lose romance interests entirely, so finish her chain first — whichever assault route you take, her quests cost time segments the same as everything else in the valley.
