The Blood of Dawnwalker takes place in a single, densely-storied place: the Vale Sangora. This page covers everything officially confirmed about the setting as of September 2, 2026.

What and Where Is the Vale Sangora?

The Vale Sangora is a fictional 14th-century gothic kingdom located in the Carpathian Mountains, inspired by the myths and history of Hungary, Romania, and the Carpathian region. Think fortified valleys, plague-era villages, and folklore where the dead do not always rest — the soil the whole game grows from.

What Happened to the Kingdom?

The confirmed history is a three-act collapse:

  1. The plague arrives and ravages the land.
  2. The king responds with executions of the infected — order through death.
  3. Brencis intervenes. The ancient vampire cures the plague with vampire blood, seizes control, and imposes the blood tax. The full sequence is in the plague and the blood tax.

By the time the game begins, the valley’s ruler is a vampire and its people owe him blood. Coen is one of them — a young man whose sick mother put his family in the plague’s path and then in Brencis’s hands.

How Does the Valley Shape Gameplay?

The Vale Sangora is not a backdrop — it is the board for the game’s core structure:

  • A 30-day clock. The investiture ceremony deadline gives the valley’s exploration its urgency and its discipline: only story actions advance time. See the 30-day time system.
  • A day/night world. The valley’s guards, civilians, and nocturnal powers each respond differently to Coen’s two forms — the day/night system governs access.
  • A shrine network. Wayside shrines dot the valley as fast travel, leveling spots, and storage (combat and skill trees).
  • Living reputation. Two scales track your standing in the world and with its antagonists; the valley remembers your choices.

Is the Vale Sangora Connected to the Wider Saga?

Yes. Rebel Wolves has confirmed the Dawnwalker saga will span multiple games in the same universe across different eras, each self-contained. A June 2026 trailer showed the protagonist in a modern-day setting, confirming the universe reaches far beyond the 14th century — though how the Vale Sangora era connects remains to be seen.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the map open world?

The game is officially described as an open-world dark-fantasy action RPG and a narrative sandbox. Exact map structure will be documented after launch.

Will later Dawnwalker games return to the Vale Sangora?
