All Bosses in The Blood of Dawnwalker: Complete List and Guides

FAQ

How many bosses are in The Blood of Dawnwalker?
Community trackers count five named major bosses — Ambrus, Bakir, Xanthe, Mihai, and Brencis — plus side fights including Svetlana in The Silts. This site has full guides for the three Boyars, and the count keeps evolving as players document more optional encounters.
Which bosses can you avoid in The Blood of Dawnwalker?
Two. Xanthe's confrontation can be resolved through negotiation instead of a kill, and Brencis can be sidestepped entirely on the deal path to the endings — killing all three Boyars is only required if you want maximum infamy for that route.
Who is Mihai in The Blood of Dawnwalker?
The boss of the A Monk and a Saint questline: St. Mihai, Patron of the Cathedral, found in the crypt beneath Svartrau Cathedral. Walkthroughs by PowerPyx and IGN describe waking him from Torpor behind a cracked wall, with the fight differing between day and night.
Do boss fights change with patches?
Indirectly, yes. Hotfix 1.0.4 fixed blocking failing under certain circumstances, dead NPCs starting dialogues, and Coen getting stuck in houses — all fight-relevant — though no patch has changed a boss's moveset as of 1.0.5.

Every boss fight in The Blood of Dawnwalker, in one place — who they are, where the fight happens, what each encounter actually tests, and which of them you can walk away from. The court fights are the spine of the game’s 30-day structure, so this page also flags what killing each boss costs and unlocks. Full walkthroughs live on the linked boss pages; the rest is compiled from the community trackers cataloguing the game’s fights.

How Many Bosses Are There?

The list below covers the five named major bosses community trackers agree on, plus the best-documented side fights. It is a living count — the game has only been out since September 3, and optional encounters keep surfacing.

Three of these have dedicated walkthroughs on this site — Ambrus, Bakir, and Xanthe — and the remaining two are covered where their stories live: Mihai’s fight belongs to the A Monk and a Saint quest, and Brencis’s fight or bargain is the hinge of the endings guide.

Who Is the Hardest Boss?

By community consensus the spine runs Ambrus → Bakir → Xanthe as the intended order of the three Boyars, with Brencis as the game’s ultimate test — he combines the speed, spellcraft, and darkness the other fights teach you to read. Mihai is the sleeper: he is a mandatory-feeling duel tucked inside a questline, and the fight changes shape depending on whether you wake him by day or by night, per the walkthroughs from PowerPyx and IGN. On higher difficulty tiers, every one of these gets sharper — Duelist removes the indicators the movesets are built around.

Which Bosses Can You Skip?

Two of the five. Xanthe’s encounter can end in negotiation rather than blood, and Brencis — the final boss — can be left standing if you take his deal, one of the game’s multiple endings. The catch is infamy: killing all three Boyars is what pushes your Court infamy to maximum, which the deal route itself requires, per the Ambrus walkthrough. So the skips are real, but the game makes you weigh them against the political route. Ambrus and Bakir have no documented non-violent resolution — their deaths are the price of the crown.

What Side Bosses Are Worth Hunting?

The optional layer is still being catalogued, but the best-documented side fights are:

  • Svetlana, “The Dark Prodigy” — fought in The Silts on the way to the Home Sweet Home ending chain, per the armor and sets route through her tower.
  • Aurelius — the second half of that same tower fight, guarding his study at the top.
  • Constantin — the soldier-camp leader documented by community guides; sparing him reportedly opens the Swordmastery tutoring line.
  • The Tatzelwurm — a beast fight in a Maragir cave that fan wikis list among the valley’s optional bosses.

Treat the last two as community-catalogued rather than site-verified — this page updates as walkthroughs firm up. The missables guide ranks which optional fights gate rewards you cannot get later.

What Have Patches Changed About the Boss Fights?

No moveset has been touched as of Hotfix 1.0.5, but the fight-relevant fixes matter: 1.0.4 repaired blocking failing under certain circumstances, dead NPCs starting dialogues mid-fight, Coen getting stuck inside houses, and the tutorial blocking on a fast Voracious Bite — each of which could ruin a court fight for launch-week players. The patch history page keeps the full list. If a boss mechanic reads differently from an older guide you found online, the patch list is the first place to check why.
