All Romance Options in The Blood of Dawnwalker: Anca, Lacra & Crake

FAQ

Is there romance in The Blood of Dawnwalker?
Yes. There are three romance options — Anca the herbalist, Crake (Marat) the Manumit rebellion leader, and Lacra the vampire assassin — each with a full questline, a romance scene, and epilogue presence. PC Gamer's romance guide confirms all three.
Is there a male romance option in The Blood of Dawnwalker?
Yes — Crake, the alias of Marat, leader of the Manumit rebellion. He is one of the three romance options alongside Anca and Lacra, and his romance completes through his questline up to A Closer Look.
Can you romance Ambrus, Brencis, or other court vampires?
No. The only court-adjacent romanceable character is Lacra — and she is an outsider working against Brencis, not part of his court. Ambrus is a boss you fight in The Gilded Gauntlet, and defeating him is actually one of the two ways to start Lacra's questline.
Can you romance multiple characters at once?
Yes. PC Gamer's guide states Coen 'isn't limited to just one partner' and that you can romance all three characters in a single playthrough, provided you keep each questline alive and finish them before the point of no return.
Who is the canon romance in The Blood of Dawnwalker?
Anca, by presentation. PC Gamer notes she is the romance who 'will always appear' in the epilogue and gets the most screen time, framed as the canon long-term option, while Crake and Lacra read closer to one-night stands.
Can you lose a romance in The Blood of Dawnwalker?
Yes, in three main ways: starting a line's finale out of order (Midnight Reckoning before The Night of Horrors locks Lacra; Rise at Dawn before Distant Shadows locks Crake), rushing the Griefberg Castle assault before finishing a line, and talking to the human options (Anca, Crake) in vampire form at low health, which kills them outright.

Three romance options ship with The Blood of Dawnwalker: Anca, Crake, and Lacra. Coen is not forced to pick one — the game lets a single playthrough carry all three lines — but each romance hides order-sensitive traps that can lock it out for good. This overview covers the shared rules: who is romanceable, how the system works, what kills a line, and who shows up in the epilogue. For dialogue-by-dialogue depth, each character’s page carries the full chain.

Who Can Coen Romance in The Blood of Dawnwalker?

Three characters, one human-ish, one rebel, one vampire. Anca, Crake, and Lacra are the complete list per PC Gamer’s romance guide — there are no hidden fourth options, and court vampires like Ambrus or Brencis are not romanceable.

Lacra’s entry has two doors, per PC Gamer: defeat Ambrus in The Gilded Gauntlet and read the note on his body — our A Friend Like This walkthrough covers that route — or help Ocha in The Heart Wants What It Wants, follow Vicho through A Study in Crimson, and hear about Lacra from him.

Can You Romance More Than One Character?

Yes — all three, in one run. PC Gamer is blunt about it: Coen “isn’t limited to just one partner,” and “you can romance all three characters.” Nothing in the system pits the lines against each other; the real constraints are the 30-day calendar and each line’s own failure conditions below.

The guide also flags that one romance is “clearly favored as something long-term” — that tilt belongs to Anca, and it shows up most concretely in the epilogue rules at the bottom of this page.

How Does Romance Actually Work?

Follow the questline — that is the whole mechanic. PC Gamer’s summary: requirements “mostly boil down to ‘follow the questline,’ so no need to worry about hidden requirements or other obscure influences.” Flirt dialogue options appear along the way; picking them is optional for locking the romance but shapes the scenes, and the actual romance scene triggers near the end of each chain. The full dialogue picks live on the character pages rather than here.

One mercy worth knowing: most big choices do not close a line. Per the same guide, the Kobold decision in Hive and Seek, viewing Lacra’s memories against her wishes, and inviting Isbrand in during Our Rotten Roots (safe per the guide’s own assumption, not a confirmed test) all leave her romance intact — and per Polygon, taking the Font of Life for Coen still allows Anca’s romance, costing only the flirtatious dialogue.

What Can Permanently Lock a Romance?

Order mistakes, premature endings, and one very hungry mistake. The three lines share a handful of ways to die:

  1. Finale order traps. After Our Rotten Roots, Lacra hands you The Night of Horrors and Midnight Reckoning together — complete The Night of Horrors first, or her romance is locked permanently. For Crake, starting Rise at Dawn before Distant Shadows locks his line for good.
  2. Rushing Griefberg Castle. Polygon notes an early assault can lose romance interests entirely — finish the lines you care about before the endgame.
  3. Vampire-form conversations at low health. Anca and Crake are human: talk to either while Coen is in vampire form with less than one chunk of health and he kills them on the spot, romance and questline included. Lacra, being a vampire, is immune to this.

Who Shows Up in the Epilogue?

Anca always; the other two have conditions. Mild endgame spoilers follow — PC Gamer’s epilogue rules, in one table:

RomanceEpilogue appearance
AncaAlways appears, with the most screen time — “framed as the canon romance”
CrakeOnly if you complete Rise at Dawn, i.e. follow the Manumit questline through to an ending
LacraIf her questline is finished up to Midnight Reckoning — she drops in even without pursuing her ending

That is the practical meaning of Anca’s “long-term” framing: she is the only romance whose epilogue presence needs no ending-route planning. Chasing all three at once is fully compatible with the missables guide — just budget the day costs — and whatever a second run looks like, the New Game Plus status page tracks whether Rebel Wolves lets you carry any of it over.
