What happens after A Friend Like This?
A Friend Like This is the side quest that opens Lacra’s questline — the alliance line that ends in the Midnight Reckoning assault — one of the castle-assault endings. It is missable, it costs 3 time units out of your 30-day clock, and per Game8 it has three different entry points — including one that only exists if you have already beaten a court boss.
How Do You Unlock A Friend Like This?
Three routes, per Game8’s guide:
- Defeat Ambrus and steal the letter about Lacra from his corpse — the aftermath of his boss fight doubles as a quest key.
- Learn Lacra’s whereabouts from Vicho during the quest A Study in Crimson.
- Investigate directly: the area by the north-east wall of Svartrau, using Focus Mode. Game8 calls this the fastest way into the questline.
The Investigation, Step by Step
You are following the aftermath of a fight, and the trail only makes sense through Focus Mode:
- In the alley, inspect the four clues: the smashed ground, the bloodstain, the torch, and the torn-off uniform near the torch.
- Follow the damage trail in Focus Mode to the next clue — a roof tile.
- Investigate the tile on the roof. This step only works at night, using Shadowstep, so plan the quest for after dark.
- Keep following the trail to the house where both Nish and Lacra are. Be ready for a fight on arrival — Game8’s phrasing is that “Lacra won’t be too happy about the intrusion.”
- Interrogate Nish.
Nish is an imprisoned Uriash — a people whose village location matters later in the game, which is exactly why the interrogation matters.

Which Dialogue Option Should You Pick?
The alternatives — releasing Nish without interrogating him, or choosing to find another way — leave you without the information the follow-up needs, and Game8 advises against both, especially if you are pursuing Lacra’s romance. Get the location first, free him second.
What Do You Get?
The quest pays 100 XP, and that undersells it: interrogating Nish immediately unlocks Song of the Mountain, the next part of Lacra’s romance questline. Lacra’s line is one of the three assault alliances in the endings guide — skip this quest and Midnight Reckoning never opens.
