FAQ

Are all vampires in the valley loyal to Brencis?
Unconfirmed. What is established: his followers seized power with him and enforce the blood tax regime. Whether the court holds internal fractures is a story question.
Does the vampire court know Coen is alive?
No. The court read his failed transformation as death — Brencis and his subordinate vampires all believe Coen died, which is why he can move through the valley.
Are there other Dawnwalkers besides Coen?
Only Coen's case is confirmed. The title refers to those caught between human and vampire; whether others exist anywhere in the world is unconfirmed.

Every account of the game’s premise names Brencis as the vampire who took the Vale Sangora — but he did not take it alone. This page covers his court: the followers who seized the kingdom with him, what they know, and the other beings that share the valley with vampires, humans, and animals.

Who Makes Up the Vampire Court?

Brencis is the head of a vampiric hierarchy, not a lone monster. When the kingdom collapsed under plague and the blood tax, he seized control alongside his vampiric followers — subordinate vampires who now share in the valley’s rule. They are the regime’s enforcers: the ones who preside over the monthly blood-tax gatherings and who carry out Brencis’s will between them.

The developers have framed these vampires as characters rather than pure boss fodder — Rebel Wolves’ creative leadership has said plainly that they are “allergic to antagonists who are bad for the sake of being bad.” Expect motivations, not just health bars.

What Does the Court Believe About Coen?

This is the load-bearing mistake of the entire story: when the court attempted to transform Coen into one of their own, the transformation failed — and Brencis and his subordinate vampires read that failure as death. None of them know a Dawnwalker walks the valley. That shared misread is Coen’s one systemic advantage: he moves through a realm ruled by his enemies while every member of the court believes him a corpse.

What Is the Court Preparing For?

The investiture ceremony — the event where Brencis will be formally invested as Prince, one month after the game’s opening. The ceremony requires sacrifices, which is why Coen’s family was abducted to his castle, and why the 30-day clock exists. In story terms the court is not hunting Coen; it is preparing a coronation, and the game is about what he can do before it happens.

Do the Court and the Reputation System Connect?

Yes. One of the game’s two reputation scales tracks your relations with antagonists — the court’s side of the world — separately from your standing among ordinary people. How the forces arrayed around Brencis regard and respond to you moves on that scale, and it interacts with the branching story structure. The mechanics are covered in combat and skill trees.

What Else Lives in the Vale Sangora?

Vampires, humans, and animals are not the whole census. The developers have confirmed the world is home to other beings — and described its fantasy creatures as deliberately stranger than the usual elves-and-goblins lineup, including creatures that can help you manipulate time. How those beings relate to the court, and to Coen’s dual nature after dark (see the day/night system), unfolds in play across the Vale Sangora.
