Anca’s homecoming is a zombie convent. Echoes of Silenced Bells, one of the first quests waiting when you leave Laslea, takes her to the St. Tyna’s Convent in the far south where she used to be a nun — where every sister has been turned into a self-reviving zombie, Brencis’s soldiers are trapped in the infirmary, and the destination is a library of forbidden books. This walkthrough follows PC Gamer’s guide through both routes, the boss, and the choice that follows.
How Does Echoes of Silenced Bells Begin?
Meet Anca, reach the courtyard, pick a route. The early stages are simple, per the walkthrough: meet Anca, head to the convent, survive the first zombie-nun encounter, and reach the overlook above the central compound. The quest’s crux is getting Anca safely to the library, and the compound offers exactly two ways to manage the soldiers and the undead — but before choosing either:
Route One: Trade the Relic to the Soldiers?
Their key for your sacristy run. Drop off the ledge and go around the left side of the infirmary — the smoking-chimney building straight ahead — and you find Brencis’s soldiers, sent to retrieve The Relic of St. Tyna. They offer the library corridor key in exchange:
- The relic has been moved to the sacristy, the west-courtyard building with the little cross on its roof.
- The Monastery Keys hang in the wooden shed against the wall to the sacristy’s right.
- Open the sacristy, examine the dead nun’s neck, and take the relic.
- Trade — or don’t. The relic is an Epic Amulet, and the walkthrough notes you may prefer to keep it and switch to the bell route below.
Route Two: Ring the Bell Tower?
The nuns still follow the schedule. In the house left of the sacristy, the Campana Loquitur book on the floor details the nuns’ bell-directed daily routine — and in their zombified state they still obey it:
- Use the Monastery Keys on the door below the bell tower (east of the main church doors).
- Climb and pull the rope.
- [ring the infirmary signal] — the zombie nuns flood the soldiers’ bunker and slaughter them.
- [ring the church signal] — then send the nuns to the church, loot the soldiers and every building and body, and tell Anca the way is clear.
The bell route is the complete-loot route; the trade route leaves the soldiers alive with their key paid honestly.
The Crypt and Leonica, She Who Speaks With the Devil
A boss with an apology attached. The library leads into the convent crypt, and the forbidden books sit behind the quest’s final boss: Leonica, She Who Speaks With the Devil. Defeat her — the skill manuals page documents an Unholy Vitality manual from this fight — and the twist lands: Anca explains that Leonica was actually trying to cure the nuns. She asks to use the notes to finish that work.
Burn the Notes or Let Anca Try?
A real choice with no wrong answer. The initial replies (“This won’t end well” or “Absolutely fucking not”) do not matter, per the walkthrough — the real decision is the burn-or-cure fork:
| Choice | What happens |
|---|---|
| Let her try | She succeeds and frees the cursed nuns — but mentions more unholy pacts in the bargain; no immediate impact, though it resurfaces in her questline and might inform the later Stronger Than Achilles choice |
| Burn the notes | She is a little upset and recovers quickly; the nuns remain zombified, and Anca makes no more deals with the devil |
The safety rails, straight from the guide: whichever you pick, Between the Words still occurs, Anca behaves the same, and neither option affects romancing her or continuing her questline — matching our romance overview’s lockout list, where this quest appears nowhere on it. The calendar note matters more: 6-8 days at level 15+ makes this one of the mid-game’s big time investments, budgeted alongside the quest list’s other heavyweights.
